Designing your own fabric

Length: 3 hour workshop

This is a NON SEWING workshop 

Remember the original Colorforms?   The fun you had playing with the simple circles, squares, triangles and bars?  We will play with the fabric versions when designing your own fabric swatches   Simple exercises and guidance will help your own creativity come alive.  Students will create two fat quarter samples along with several smaller “tester” squares. Discussion of design impact and color placement will be covered.

  Friends in High Places

Length: 6 hour workshop

Level: Confident Beginner/Intermediate

Students will receive pattern instruction and guidance on completion of a "Friends in High Places wall hanging"  of their own.  Color choice and combining fabric patterns for texture will be discussed.

Instruction in a new and innovative use of

will be covered.

  Animate Your Applique

Length: 3 hour workshop

Level: All Levels

Learn how to use those wonderful straight-line embroidery stitches on your machine for spectacular appliqué.   The additional texture/color added to your project by use of these stitches is simply amazing.   Workshop will cover the use of Pellon Décor Bond in appliqué application.  Students will make a stitch sampler and finish off with a small project that can be used as a quilt starter or pillow front.   No UFO’s here!   Just learn the technique and apply it to your next appliqué piece of art.

Coffee Break

Paintstiks- Make Any Fabric Your Own

Length: 3 hour/or 6 hour  workshop

Level: All Levels

Fabric embellishment with Shiva oil paintstiks.  Several Rubbing Techniques will be covered.  Students will create their own unique fat quarters of fabric using taught techniques.  In 6 hour version expanded application techniques taught and more creative “play” time with all supplies provided.

NOTE: Mickey will bring in over one hundred rubbing templates, and a variety of other creative items for “Play” with the Paintstiks…also she provides between 75-100 paintstiks for class use.. student exposure to this medium will be maximum as I am always updating my supplies.    Fabrics provided in kits are A+ quality and will support the creative nature of this workshop.

NON SEWING WORKSHOP

6Hr Format:

A true "free form" creativity class with no pattern other than "gentle" instruction.  Workshop will focus on each individual student creating their own form fitting drawing and then taking this drawing to the next level of creation.  Raw edge- iron applied appliqué will be utilized to keep this workshop at a "NON SEWING" level.  

 3Hr Format: 

This  workshop will not include the appliqué portion of the workshop.  It will be DRAWING ONLY...please see the supply list. 

Class will focus on creativity rather than technique.

Let me lead you thru the creation of your own "Free Form Fish Net"  Each student will then design their own trio of whimsical fish to swim thru it. 

Yes, each student will design your own fish....everyone can draw and this workshop will prove it!

Autumn Oaks Trio

Based on my original quilt, "Autumn Oaks Plaid", this class will have every student creating their own version of this wallhanging with background/wavy border guidance. 

EVERY QUILT WILL LOOK DIFFERENT BASED ON WAVY BORDER TECHINIQUE!

 Students choose from 10 different leaf patterns to further personalize their quilt.

Block Garden- TWO DAY WORKSHOP

Length: 6 hour workshop

Level: Intermediate

This is a two day workshop (total of 12 hours) for intermediate/advanced quilter who wishes to design their own "Block Garden Flower"  in day one and bring it to reality in day two.  Students will be lead thru a drawing exercise in which they will apply their own style to the basic "Block Garden" format.   Elements of balance and design will be covered along with the freedom to look beyond realistic imagery for a sense of whimsy for your flower.  

Day two will focus on bringing each student's drawing to life by choosing colors and construction of the quilt top.  Machine appliqué will be applied.
